Murdock's primary role in the team is as a pilot. He claims that he can fly anything with wings, and this seems to be borne out by the show. He can also drive a semi, a tank, and operate construction equipment (such as a crane and tractor) and a jet refueling truck. Though he doesn't usually drive the team around, when it's necessary he can be very skilled at evading pursuit. In addition to flying and driving, Murdock is capable of piloting a sailboat. He knows how to ride a horse, parachute, and SCUBA dive (in spite of B.A.'s claim that Murdock couldn't swim.). He can pick a lock (though not as well as Face can).

The skill that Hannibal is most famous for is his strategic ability. He nearly always has an equally crazy and brilliant plan that gets the goals of the mission done.

He styles himself a "master of disguise", though his skill lay not so much in how convincing his disguise was, but in his ability to assume any role and convince others that his role is genuine. Most episodes begin with the prospective clients coming to meet the A-Team, and instead, being introduced to one of Hannibal's comic aliases. Hannibal uses his various disguises to screen all the A-Team's potential clients to assure they were not fronts for the military—sometimes playing more than one at a time. Clients often make reference to a Mr. Lee, the owner of a Chinese laundromat who tells them where to meet the team.

Born in the rough south-side ghetto area of Chicago. He is the second to youngest of twelve children and grew up in the housing projects of Chicago. His father left when he was five, and his mother raised the family on $87 a month welfare in a three-room apartment. Mr. T's brothers encouraged him to build up his body in order to survive in the area, and he has commented, "If you think I'm big, you should see my brothers!" His mother is a religious woman, who has had a strong influence on him. He says, "Any man who don't love his momma can't be no friend of mine."

Face is a skilled grifter. He is very likeable, and people seem to find themselves trusting him. He is knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects.

Face is a skilled marksman and is proficient with many different types of guns.
